Composite materials are being used to fabricate launching tubes for strategic missiles
due to their excellent specific strength and stiffness over traditional metal materials.
The favoured method of manufacture is filament winding. Depending on lay-up and
cure cycle, large localized residual stresses can be generated during processing which
could cause defects such as layer separation, micro-cracking and poor dimensional fidelity. |
