Hexcel launched its first innovative composite tooling material, HexTOOL® M61 at JEC 2006; a product that enables machineable composite moulds to be produced and is competitive with conventional composite tools and metal moulds, including INVAR. The launch product was made from high strength carbon fibre and HexPly® M61 BMI resin, which is a tough, high temperature system, providing excellent resistance to degradation (micro-cracking) when submitted to thermo-cycling. This makes HexTOOL® M61 ideal for the manufacture of high quality tooling for carbon fibre/epoxy parts that cure at 180°C. |
