Multifunctionalscaffoldscl],whichhavecontrollablebiodegradability,drugdeliveryfunction,andshapememoryeffect,havebeenattractinggreatresearchinterestinthefieldofbonetissueengineeringrecently.Anoveltechniquecombiningwithpolymercoagulation,coldcompressionmoulding,saltparticulateleachingandadrugcoatingmethodhasbeendevelopedtofabricateporouspoly-D-L-lactide/nano-hydroxyapatite(PDLLA/nano-HAp)scaffoldswithpoly(ethyleneglycol)/dexamethasone(PEG/Dex)coatingsC2].Thescaffoldsfabricatedbythistechniquepossesshomogenousporenetworkswithindependentlycontrollableporosityandporesize.Fillingthematrixwithnano-HApparticlescanimprovethemechanicalpropertiesofthecompositescaffolds.ThesurfacehydrophilicityofthescaffoldwasfoundtobeimprovedbyaPEG/Dexcoatingandnano-HApaddition.AninvitrodrugreleasestudyofthePEG/DexcoatedPDLLA/nano-HApscaffoldshasshownthatthedrugreleasebehaviorofthescaffoldscanbeadjustedbyvaryingtheporositylevelandthefilledvolumefractionofthenano-HAp.Apatitecouldbeformedthecompositescaffoldwithnano-HApafterexposuretoasimulatedbodyfluid,leadingtoanimprovementinthebioactivityandapatiteformationabilityofthescaffold.Shapememorypropertiesofthescaffoldshavebeendemonstratedbyshaperecoveryandcyclicthermalmechanicaltests.Theresultsshowthattheshaperecoveryratioandshapefixityrateofthescaffoldsareinfluencedbytheporosity.Moreover,therecoverabilityofthecompositescaffoldsisalsoaffectedbythecontentofthenano-HAp.
